Often blazing ahead of the tech pack, MICROSOFT is always working on new tech. And this time is no different. On 20 May, at an event in Seattle, ‘MICROSOFT Build’, we expect the company to show us something new. Rumour has it that the firm will demonstrate how we’ll interact with our Windows laptops, Surface tablets and new types of AI experiences in the future. That’s about all we know for sure. But as best we understand it, here’s what could be in store.
Microsoft’s software kingdom is built on the basis of Windows, and WINDOWS 11 is getting the next-generation AI experiences it needs to usher you into all new ways of computing … here’s MICROSOFT tomorrow describing what’s in store with the WINDOWS 11 2024 Update, rolling out first on new Qualcomm Snapdragon X-based PCs, coming to all for broader roll out.
Of the features that are due to arrive, perhaps the most AI-driven is AI Explorer, which takes a fly-by-wire system for flipping through your digital footprint. Search for something and it jiggles out memories and moments. The entire experience of ‘computing’ might not just be a tool, but a companion which understands your digital fingerprint.
Upcoming WINDOWS Studio Effects offer expressive possibilities for video calls and content. Real-time video effects demonstrate MICROSOFT’s influence in innovation and creativity. Users can incorporate a touch of art to their video chats and content like never before.
The evolution of Live Captions is a testament to MICROSOFT’s continued dedication to the goal of accessibility. With AI tuning in, text transcriptions delivered in real time translate speech into a wide range of languages, making it possible for anyone to join in our digital conversations.
This signals the next major evolution: taking some aspects of Generative AI off the cloud and deploying them to our personal devices. When we no longer have to rely on cloud compute to experience the capabilities of AI, the full promise of AI can be harnessed in a microenvironment for one user. To summarise, the new wave of Generative AI depends on a new performance tier and a new compute tier for an improved user experience. Moving many aspects of Generative AI to on-device experience means that you can interact with it without the cloud, with all the benefits of a more personal and efficient use of AI.
Armed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series SoCs, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 promise to be industry-leading PCs for the Arm ecosystem in terms of performance and power efficiency. MICROSOFT has opened a Pandora’s box by opting for Arm chip integration with its own cloud services and WINDOWS on Arm – however, PC makers and the future of mobile computing could be the ones who benefit the most.
There’s an air of excitement surrounding a design refresh of the Surface Laptop 6, with thinner bezels and higher contrast and resolution, making for an improved viewing experience, and that’s not to mention improved ergonomics and increased connectivity. This is but one example of MICROSOFT’s continued refinement of user experience at the periphery.
And that the combination of an Arm processor with an OLED display (another key feature of the update) marks the beginning of a new era of elegant, fast, highly efficient and beautiful machines. It will be here soon, if it’s not already.
Though launch efforts revolve around the ongoing just-in-time trajectories, rumblings about Surface Go 4 portend a longer-term perspective: by the time you read this ‘it’ will be the summer of consumer Surface Go 4 bringing advanced Intel processing – this time a N200 – to the masses.
One thing you can expect with MICROSOFT, however, is the unexpected, so even if all the other announcements flop, we can hope that at least one unveiled by Ballmer will be intriguing and could well be the one that charts the next course in technology.
Despite being just a technology company, MICROSOFT has always been about more than that. It is always on the forefront of innovation and pushes the limits of technology in every possible way. Going right back to its brand origins in 1975, MICROSOFT has always been at the forefront of integrating technology into our daily lives. It aims to design solutions that enable people to ‘do more, dream more and achieve more’ in the digital space. Going into the upcoming event in Seattle next month, MICROSOFT is far from done. It will continue to shape the face of technology, with every update, feature and device that aids the user to do, dream and achieve more, without any boundaries.
Microsoft is obsessed with bringing innovation to life, improving the human experience, and helping every person and organisation on the planet to achieve more. Emphasising MICROSOFT’s ongoing mission to trendset software and hardware that users need to be more productive, in this example MICROSOFT places the sophisticated technological capabilities of its products as a customer benefit.
