Apple has often led the way: with every new version, the company pushes technological boundaries, rewriting the rules of our interaction with our gadgets. But this year there’s something different. At its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference – WWDC, beginning June 10 – Apple is making a second push toward an artificially intelligent future, one that will affect every aspect of our interaction with the company’s gadgets.
The keynote address for WWDC will begin at 10 a.m. PDT on 10 June, and unfold in a wide range of releases. iOS 18 – or whatever it will be called – will lead a parade of AI ushering in the next phase of Apple’s operating systems. Apple fans and developers can watch the keynote live on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel.
The keynote will be immediately followed by a Platforms State of the Union at 1 p.m. PDT, a deeper dive into what’s new across iOS, iPadOS, macOS and beyond so developers can be ready to incorporate these updates into their apps.
Across the week of WWDC, developers will have access to more than 100 technical sessions designed to shine a light on the way forward for using Apple’s new technologies and frameworks. These sessions will be viewable on the Apple Developer app and website, and will be accompanied by carefully designed curated guides that can help walk developers through the most important announcements made at the conference.
As part of its commitment to innovation, the company continues to inspire the next generation of developers with the Swift Student Challenge, identifying the top 50 winners, most of whom will be flown in for a guided tour of Apple Park, and celebrating the year’s best app and game designs with the Apple Design Awards.
The Apple Developer app is still a portal to WWDC, keeping us up to date with the lastest news, sessions and Q&As, and there are still sessions where developers can deepen their knowledge of Apple’s platforms via Apple’s deep technical sessions and labs. It offers the ability to see the videos while sharing via SharePlay and copy code directly from the videos.
Apple has facilitated a direct connection between its team of experts and the developers, integrating different resources such as online labs and consultations, and even live forums. Here developers can gain support on how to use the latest technologies, how to implement best practices on the platform, and how to improve their apps and games.
At heart, it is an ecosystem of design, craft, creativity and technical excellence. The company’s relentless innovation and fierce dedication to making the human experience with technology the best that it can be has been a source of inspiration for this technology industry as it has revolutionised it over the past decade. Apple is the pioneer of the personal computer age and, at this year’s WWDC, the company is kicking off the true AI revolution. AI at WWDC will be, if Apple is to be believed, a genuine start to a future where technology and human thinking can become so fused that we can’t distinguish what is software and what is human intuition. The clock is ticking; it’s time to wait for June 10.
