Few animated stories of villainy turned valiant heroism are as joyful as Megamind’s, and yet that travails of that blue alien are not over – far from it. DreamWorks Animation is reviving its film about a supervillain who becomes a superhero 13 years after the first film went dancing its way to making $321.9 million at cinema screens around the world. The direct-to-streaming spectacle Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate will be available for purchase on Amazon from September 13, while the companion series, Megamind Rules!, casts the alien as ‘the world’s first superhero influencer’.
Any curious fans at this point might be wondering: Where can I watch this long-awaited sequel? The answer is Peacock. Starring Megamind and animated by the creators of Onward, the film streams exclusively on the platform. You can find it in the Peacock app, which is available for devices including mobile phones and tablets, with plans starting at just $5.99 per month.
This follow-up invites viewers back into the riotous, bad-guy-by-nature-but-still-sort-of-good world of Megamind. The official synopsis, provided by DreamWorks Animation, is as follows: The trio of evil returns. Megamind a hero! And yet a bad guy! Fake it. Master evil all over again. Using his minions Roxanne, Ol’ Chum and Keiko to defeat his old buddies’ plan to launch Metro City to the Moon.
Since the new story is based on the same character, fans might want to watch the original Megamind adventure first. As far as streaming goes, Prime Video has the edge, as it’s available for free to Amazon Prime members. The first movie can also be rented or purchased on Amazon Prime Video platform and on YouTube and other digital storefronts.
Directed by Eric Fogel, with the story by Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, it has an absolutely stellar cast of actors voicing the characters. Megamind is voiced once again by Keith Ferguson, but the cast also includes Laura Post, Josh Brener, and Maya Aoki Tuttle, among many others. The delightful twist here is that Will Ferrell isn’t returning to voice Megamind in either the sequel or the TV series.
And as a TV-G film, Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate can be enjoyed by the whole family without any worries. It’s the optimal length, 83 minutes (that’s runtime, credits included), for a lean, fast narrative that keeps the mass audience hooked from beginning to end.
With its mix of humour, heart, and heroics, it’s the perfect pick for families looking for animated entertainment this season. The returning blue hero’s attempt to not only save Metro City but redeem himself from crimes of the past – and the dramas that go along with friendship, family, and betrayal – not only strike familiar chords, but also offer a new take on the superhero that both old fans and newcomers to the genre can appreciate.
In this article, the term ‘prime’ simultaneously refers to the Amazon Prime video-streaming service used to watch that original Megamind movie on the frame, but it also means first in importance, the prime entertainment that Megamind offers. Strategically deployed, the word enhances the SEO value of the article, so that fans searching for their next Megamind fix can find it on page one of the search results.
Streaming info, casting notes and a rundown of the show’s plot are all included here to give you the inside scoop on the movie that media mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg’s company has been building up to for the better part of a decade: Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate. With more installments of its universe planned – including a new TV series starring the titular villain as a vigilante seeking vengeance for the deaths of his loved ones – this sequel (and its pseudo-sequel) set the stage for a new chapter in the life of the Rhymecer anthropomorphic world’s one and only, unprecedented and most unpromising superhero. Whether you’ve been a lifelong fan or only just now learned of Megamind’s exploits, you’re guaranteed a good time. Grab your tin foil coonskin cap and popcorn – it’s movie time!
