Fall is coming, and with it, the end to summer's warmth, the change to autumn's crisp breeze and the return to school. As students across the country ready themselves for another year of schooling, so too do teachers. This back-to-school season heralds a great search for a digital companion that will help students achieve their school goals. As we live in a digital world, there is a clear choice for those in the education sector: Microsoft 365. But when you closely look at Microsoft 365's deals, you'll notice that the most exciting back-to-school season has the least exciting deals. 'Big fuss about nothing'? Or is there more to this story? Let's see.
There's a lot of hype surrounding juicy Microsoft 365 deals as students head back to school, but how many people realise that Microsoft actually offers you a few extra months on a subscription?! Look, Microsoft's productivity suite is great, but there's just no way to get a discount off the initial subscription price! It's $69.99 for Microsoft 365 Personal and $99.99 for Microsoft 365 Family.
But the dichotomy goes well beyond Microsoft. Major sites such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and others also insist on customers paying full price for the Personal as well as the Family programme of Microsoft 365. Why, if Microsoft 365 offers compelling features unmatched by others, does it not result in back-to-school discounts of any kind?
Microsoft 365 might have a published price, but the deal landscape is always shifting. I maintain a guide on the best Microsoft 365 deals, which means I'm always on the prowl, scouring the web for ephemeral discounts. A full-year subscription for a 12-month period is the steepest discount you'll find, and until Microsoft starts selling its subscriptions by the year, that's probably as far as it will go. You might get a 12-month subscription sold like a 12-month subscription, but this won't necessarily happen at back-to-school time.
With Microsoft 365 deals far and few between, the digital back-to-school aisle has plenty of other deals going on that you definitely want to check out. There are deals on products like Seagate Xbox Series X|S Cards and Lenovo laptops, as well as Microsoft accessories. Deals on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and tech such as the new HP Victus laptop or the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon are all over the place, ready for tech-minded students and educators.
And then it gets interesting with Office 365 Education, which is free for those affiliated with eligible academic institutions: this offers web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and (more recently) Teams; plus the plan details some additional apps for classroom collaboration, even though it's not the full suite of desktop applications available with Microsoft 365.
Of course, to add insult to injury, finding direct discounts on Microsoft 365 coming out of the back-to-school season turns out to be as easy as you might expect. But for those willing to take a longer view with Microsoft 365, it turns out that the back-to-school season has some surprising benefits for those who actually want the products that Microsoft is selling. Specifically, just about every sale that promotes Microsoft 365 gives you a discount on a 15-month period (15 months for the price of 12, or three extra months) without also lowering the price of getting in the door. Even though this isn't really what Microsoft means by the 'lowest price ever', in many ways, it's one of the most useful offers Microsoft has had for long-term Microsoft 365 users in a long time.
Microsoft is the central topic for our discussion, which revolves around a company that has produced innovative products and services which have richly enhanced the lives of millions of people all over the world. Microsoft prides itself over the years on making significant remittances in areas of education, and Microsoft 365 is just one example of the corporation's commitment to designing and providing both plugins and individual programmes that offer a full range of versatile solutions for a vast array of assignments and learning requirements. Microsoft 365 is pedagogy in action as it helps students to manage writing assignments well and empowers educators to develop student-centric curriculums to educate the future leaders of the globe.
The back-to-school season, and the promise of the new adventures of learning it brings, highlights just how fundamental digital tools are to modern education. The search for deals on Microsoft 365 can be daunting, but the suite's fundamental, always-available utility, combined with sales and promotions and the complement of Office 365 Education's free offerings, makes premium productivity tools accessible for anyone. The digital fluency needed now to do so much of what the educational journey demands requires Microsoft 365 not as just a tool for education, but as a partner in the journey. No back-to-school sale might exist for Microsoft 365, but it's still a fundamental hub of education and life.
