Once a year, on Prime Day, Amazon’s tech-savvy, sale-hungry fans circle a date on their calendars.
Until last year, it was a truism of Amazon Prime Day deals that no matter what you’re looking to buy – TVs, headphones, laundry-detergent, lipstick, kitchenware, car parts – it’s probably more affordable on Amazon Prime Day than at any other time of the year. While there have always been reliable choices for iPhone bargains, the picture around Apple’s handsets has been a bit murkier since Amazon generally doesn’t bring in any substantial amount of new iPhones directly to its warehouses in the US. However, the good news is that the tides are changing, and there are better iPhone deals than ever before – and not just on Amazon – ahead of Prime Day.
Though exactly WHEN Prime Day 2024 will take place is a secret Amazon and Jeff Bezos will take to the grave, it’ll probably happen in mid-July. If you want instant updates, sign up for all the latest Prime news here. And for anyone sniffing out a Prime Day iPhone deal, you can no doubt count on us to keep you posted.
Amazon’s Prime Day might have an initial geographic focus away from the UK, but as more and more iPhone deals get alluded to – particularly in a market such as the UK where Amazon is a key retailer for brand new, unlocked iPhones – Prime Day is serving to be more and more inclusive. Perhaps not as eye-catching in headlines as Android deals, but still surprisingly common are discounts of between £50 and as much as £150 on literally hundreds of different iPhone models. It is an exciting glimpse into the future for all the Apple fans around the world who want to save a little money without having to compromise on the quality or innovation that are the trademarks of the iPhone.
In the UK, to take full advantage of the best iPhone deals, as well as more attractive – and often better – deals on everything else, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership. Not only will Prime membership give you access to the best deals on Amazon, but you also get other benefits, including free delivery and access to Prime Video, Prime Music, and more. For Amazon shoppers in the US, Amazon’s stocking strategy means that you won’t find the exact same deals advertised on Prime Day in the UK – with some exceptions – but you may well find other deals worthy of your time and cash.
But looking back at previous Prime Days is a great way to get some insight into the kind of deals you might see emerge this year. Last year, Verizon discounted the Apple iPhone 14 Plus in partnership with Amazon, shaving several hundreds of dollars off the price, and threw in six months of Disney+ and $100 worth of gift cards. And here in the UK, Amazon slashed the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, one of the best smartphones around, by hundreds of pounds.
Leading up to Prime Day 2024, your antennae should be tuned to the possibility of iPhone deals. Will Amazon itself be offering any substantial discounts? We can’t say for sure. But what’s certain is that it’s pressuring other stores and carriers to come out with darn good deals. Shoppers would do well to keep an eye on Amazon and its competitors this Prime season.
For Prime Day is no mere sale on this or that – Amazon’s July sale – but an elusory once-in-a-lifetime chance to pick up the latest and greatest tech gear, be it an iPhone or (currently) the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, at prices that will not be seen again, not even at Black Friday, whose maundering visitation draws nigh. Only with careful planning and a perpetual alertness, and a willingness to pounce upon the deal of the day, will the contender prevail.
At its heart, Prime is Amazon’s Premium subscription. Members get a raft of perks – including a 30-day free trial for first-timers – designed to make the shopping experience faster, and give more: faster shipping, exclusive sales on Prime Day and access to a growing suite of streamed entertainment content. And for those people who are sitting at home raring to pounce on an iPhone deal this Prime Day, understanding and using Prime could be the difference between getting an iPhone, or not.
And remember, Amazon or even just the wider field of retailers looking to compete from this period onwards, there are more chances than ever to get an iPhone at a bargain price. Watch this space, be prepared and get the most out of Prime Day 2024.
