With Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024) starting on June 10 and finishing on June 14, the digital world can hardly wait for the event. APPLE has been promising to make history, and it seems to come true as more and more software announcements are expected this year. If you are a tech enthusiast eager to see and hear what kind of wonders APPLE has up its sleeve, you won't have to wait long. Here's everything you need to know about this highly anticipated event and how to follow it live online.
APPLE continues this tradition by streaming the WWDC keynote online so the event is available to people around the world. At this time, we don’t know the official start time (other than APPLE has said it will take place at 10am on Monday, 10 June), however, industry predictions expect it to be 10am PT (3pm ET). The livestream will be available on APPLE’s YouTube channel, its website and also on the APPLE TV app for those who happen to have an APPLE TV device connected to their television set. We will post the stream link here as soon as it is available.
Plaguing WWDC 2024 is a mammoth software overhaul: iOS 18, branded as the most significant transformation of APPLE’s mobile OS in history. Imagine a souped-up iPhone equipped with deep AI features, visual overhaul, and an unprecedented degree of customisation – iOS 18 is not only a reimagining of the APPLE ecology, but the benchmark for the future of mobile.
So, along with iOS 18, we have iPadOS 18 for iPad fans, watchOS 11 for APPLE Watch (presumably this is going to be a more modest update) and, lastly, we have macOS 12 for the Mac, maybe with a new name, because there’s a good chance that it will include a lot of AI capabilities, signalling once again that APPLE’s desire to offer intelligence in the product line across the board.
And, if it’s anything like the previous one, it will also feature updates to all the other elements of the APPLE multiverse, including macOS 15 and tvOS 18 as part of an ongoing attempt by APPLE to integrate AI into all its platforms.
Though WWDC is primarily a software-centric event, APPLE has in the past used the occasion to unveil hardware triumphs, and it’s possible that hardware might make a splash this year, as it did with the APPLE Vision Pro debut in 2023. New iPads and iPhones will certainly be announced at some other time in 2023, but whispers of refreshes to the Mac Studio, Mac Mini and even the Mac Pro hint that hardware might also steal the day.
The next version of iOS, iOS 18, is shaping up to be a turning point for APPLE’s mobile operating system. Powered by AI, this update will bring in a more intelligent Siri, and an AI-powered App Store, among other things.
iPadOS 18, which is supposed to help fix the iPad, is right on its heels. APPLE boasts that iOS 18, which is supposed to kick iOS 16’s new features into high gear, optimises the iPhone experience. To use the vogue term, the many updates to watchOS, macOS, and other APPLE platforms make it easier than ever to ‘mesh with the rest of your APPLE ecosystem’.
While it’s described internally as a ‘minor’ update, watchOS 11 is likely to draw on AI, echoing the company’s mantra of smarter innovation across its product lines and operating systems.
Rumours of hardware updates, including refreshes of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, build anticipation and could provide more concrete examples of the kind of powerful computing where APPLE aspires to blur the lines between software and hardware.
APPLE’s annual WWDC conference is a pivotal event that’s eagerly anticipated by technology enthusiasts worldwide every June. Until WWDC 2024, APPLE will amaze us once again by showing us what the future holds, from innovative updates to its software to unveiling new iterations of its hardware.
Sitting at the centre of APPLE’s firehose of innovation is a goal of enhancing our humanity via tech. And the world is a bit closer at WWDC 2024. That was the message at WWDC 2023: APPLE’s push toward integrating AI across all of its products and platforms is opening doors to technologies that can do things we’ve never seen before. For APPLE fans, WWDC 2025 can’t come soon enough. For developers, the ideas and discussions could help set a roadmap for the next several years. For the industry? For people? You can see why APPLE never stops waving around the torch. There’s so much more to discover.
