The digital revolution never really slows down but Google is yet again outpacing the competition with the launch of the second generation of Chromebook Plus machines, set to hit the markets in extensive collaboration with leading manufacturers, such as Acer, Asus and HP. This is the dawn of a new era of portable technology that blends creativity, processing power and gaming in a way unparalleled to date. Let’s take a closer look at the amazing functionalities and impressive new features these new machines will employ, in order to understand why it’s not just about an upgrade but looking into the future of personal computing.
Google has played a key role in bringing AI into our daily technologies so that your devices are smarter and more intuitive. AI wallpapers that evolve as you do. ‘Help me write’ functionality that makes you a better worker. Take video calls to the next level of quality, as your duet partner and creative muse. These devices can support you in your personal and professional life. Google is committed to making your device a true companion. These new Chromebook Plus machines are drenched in AI and Google functionality. If you do go for the Chromebook Plus that comes with a year of Google One AI Premium, you get everything I just described, with the addition of Gemini Advanced.
With Intel Core Ultra chips installed in select Chromebook Plus models, these lightweight laptops are set to break new ground in processing power. The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 and Asus Plus Expertbook CX54 with Ultra 5 chips are now capable of unprecedented speed and streamlined efficiency for everyday use or handling intensive gaming apps and heavy computations. Google and its partners are finally pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with a lightweight Chrome computer.
The Chromebook Acer Chromebook Plus 516GE, said Google its first ‘gaming’ Chromebook, is designed to deliver high-quality gaming in the cloud, with a 16in display, an RGB keyboard, even an Ethernet port. The flagship of the range comes with an Intel Core i7 chip and the built-in Iris XE graphics should be plenty of power for cloud gaming, as well as local play. There’s a 2TB storage option and up to 16GB of RAM, demonstrating that Google is serious about attracting the gaming community.
Even with all the major improvements and more muscle under the hood, Google has continued to focus on bringing tech to the masses. The new Chromebook Plus lineup starts at $349 and the gaming-focused Acer Chromebook Plus 516GE starts at a competitive $699.
Google has ensured that the Chromebook Plus runs their ChromeOS. Google is layering its own ecosystem into the Chromebook Plus experience, courtesy of the company, and incoming features like ‘Where was I?’ alongside both reading and focus modes make the argument that Google’s products and services (especially when used together on a Google Pixel) all fit together better than anything else on the market, to deliver a coherent user experience. Google is doing its level best to blend the barriers between what’s an application or a website, like the ‘Add to Chromebook’ badge seen on the desktop of the new Pixelbook or the fact that Google’s tabbed PWAs are landing on the ChromeOS desktop.
But go beyond that hardware and software upgrade, and what we find in the latest Google Chromebook Plus line is the true harbinger of things to come. A new class of computing device that understands what we want before we know what we want, builds on what we create, and allows us to do more. Powered by artificial intelligence and driven by an enduring mission that emphasises computation for everybody, Google is not just reinventing the laptop – it’s rewriting how we interact with the computational universe.
At the core of the technological evolution lies the company that has long stood beyond its search engine origins and emerged as a key innovator of our digital era – Google. From its very inception, Google has been guided by the belief that information is available for everyone, and it’s Google’s responsibility to organise it and make it useful and accessible for all. The company has always strived to manage the world’s information to help it be useful and useful for everyone. And today, with every product it releases such as the Chromebook Plus, Google fulfils this mission and surpasses it, merging technological advancements with AI and user-centred design as it strives to equip each individual and transform the way we live, work and play.
When we painted the portrait above of this coming race of Chromebook Plus machines, we were not witnessing the evolution of a product line, but a glimpse of the future of personal computing wrought, as it was, by Google.
