In a crowded field where gaming laptops are fighting for attention, Lenovo Legion Slim 5 seems to have hit a spot where many gamers and tech enthusiasts chime in. It might be due to Lenovo’s perfect mix of power and price. But what exactly is this machine that is garnering attention? Let’s dig in deeper into Lenovo Legion Slim 5 and what makes it so special.
Sandwiched between the sleek chassis of the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is a technological juggernaut, meant to redefine gaming on the go. With a look at its features, it is easy to understand why a gamer’s pulse would quicken.
Packing the full-fat 140 W NVIDIA RTX 4060, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 flies in the face of tradition by providing premium graphics power for significantly less than what we’d expect to pay. At the seemingly astounding sub-$1,000 price tag of $849.99, there isn’t any reason to expect sophisticated graphics; more often than not, you’ll find a less powerful version of the RTX 4060, such as the RTX 4050. Lenovo places premium graphics in what is otherwise a value model.
The processor is a beast: this laptop houses an AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS, a six-core, 12-thread CPU clocked up to 5 GHz (that’s Turbo Boost mode). In single-threaded benches, it has shown itself capable of competing head-to-head with even the most exquisite Ryzen 7000 CPUs, like the Ryzen 7 7840X programmed for high-performance desktop computers. With a TDP (ie, a power swallow) set at 54W, the Lenovo knows how to keep its system cool, improve its performance and enhance its longevity.
For starters, it comes with an imposing 16-inch screen, great for gamers looking to get some pixels in their eyes at a relaxed resolution of 1920 x 1200. Though the 16:10 aspect ratio isn’t very snug, at this size it will be stretched across an immense canvas and will likely become quite immersive. Though it covers 60 per cent sRGB colour gamut, which is good enough for gaming, it will leave print or photo professionals wanting – if that’s your thing.
Brightness is another key feature, with the display hitting the 300-nit level for a gaming session that remains bright and crisp without the need for low room lighting. Then there’s the 80Wh battery, in an ultra-portable – for a gaming laptop – chassis, demonstrating that Lenovo is serious about performance and portability.
The 512GB SSD could concern people in a world where 200GB game files are common – such as Embr, which I certainly reviewed on the larger SSD as it was being installed – and Lenovo delivers with a secondary M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slot, making it possible to expand the storage to suit a sizable collection of titles.
The footprint is fairly large, too, but surprisingly the weight is only 2.4 kg (5.29 lbs) – a creditable figure for a powerful gaming laptop. Lenovo Legion Slim 5 PS5 and game testing The extra-large-sized case allows for a larger screen, but makes it less portable.
It’s impossible to overlook the fact that, with technology as in other fields, there’s nearly always the next model waiting to be released, and that the steep reduction in prices may be maintained with the next stock of incoming laptops. The harsh reality buyers have to face is that prices can only drop further. It’s hard to argue against the value proposition presented by the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 at its current price.
Lenovo is held in high esteem in the tech world for its performance and durability. Lenovo produces products ranging from gaming powerhouses to daily drivers. The Legion Slim 5 is to no exception to the brand’s performance and quality. Lenovo consistently delivers premium experiences to its users without the premium price.
Power (check) Performance (check) Portability (wait, what?) The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 packs so much gaming performance into a package so slim and affordable it turns conventional wisdom about laptops on its head. Lenovo has a reputation for making excellent laptops across all price points. That reputation is well-deserved and the Legion Slim 5 proves it is on the right track. The Legion Slim 5 delivers the solid gaming performance we expect from its powerful graphics and processor. Lenovo includes both the features we expect as well as some lovely thoughtful touches. It’s a great blend at a great price and I’d recommend it to serious hardcore gamers and all others who love to play.
