Horizon diehards, get ready to hop in a Delorean back to the neon-drenched future of today, where you can essentially send your driver-avatar into a Tron-inspired world where everything is helipad-brilliant-vibrant. The Horizon Retrowave update for Forza Horizon 5 is launching next week, and this electrified incursion of CD shopping is, the name suggests, absolutely loaded with retro-phuturism. Or really, just retro all the way down. Neon dangly bits. Neon outlines and colouration on hundreds or thousands of vehicles. Neon featured decorations on Halo-inspired and Minecraft-themed cars. Neon made to look absolutely brilliant and vibrant. The periodic table of elements. Partying like it’s 1985. An entire expanded playlist, the Horizon Wave, subsequently completes that early impression. The neon pulsing of those hundreds or thousands of new tracks are wholly dominant on the wavelengths. Some of these are Game Pass-themed. Some of these are from other Playground Games titles. All of these are very special indeed. I think! In addition to the neon, party-like glowing retro wash of the world, Playground Games subsequently sends its players down a vault of treasures, including a sporty assortment of 1980s-licensed cars, including picks from The Fast and the Furious – Tokyo Drift, Snake Eyes, Supercar Superstar, Tekken: Kazuya Mishima, and the Halo Warthog. In true Halo crossover fashion, we further find four new instances of cars that have previously been made in Minecraft, too: the Shelby Cobra 427 Competition Edition, the Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600, the Smart Crossblade, and the Volkswagen Type-2 T2 Panel Van.
At the centre of the Horizon Retrowave update are five new cars now available to play with in Forza Horizon 5. Denis Kainov, director of vehicles at Turn 10 Studios, explains in the trailer that no matter who you are or what your style is, every racer will be able to find their perfect car: Everyone will be able to find their perfect fit this summer. From the 1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo reminiscent of James Bond’s Aston Martin, to the 2021 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 that harkens back to the classic Lamborghini Countach, to the futuristic 2022 Hyundai N Vision 74.
The Horizon Wave – hosted, the announcement insists, by ‘your new DJ’ Isabel Moss – will pipe 21 new synthwave, ambient and ‘stream-friendly’ tracks into your ship that I can already imagine will enhance/destroy the visual orgasm of the update.
There’s also a night shift to Forza Horizon 5’s neon makeover. This is when the Legendary Highway really comes into its own, strung with neon and pulsing with light shows and drone displays that you can drive through. With the Horizon Wave mammoth music festival playing, neon decorations move with it, pulsing and breathing with the beats.
For creators, the EventLab gets upgraded with 20 neon props that can do light shows in time with the music. It means that the possibilities for racing events with custom mods is ever-growing.
Celebrating Minecraft’s 15-year anniversary, Horizon Retrowave features two hats: one of the game’s Creeper and a nod to a slain Enderman. Six new retro-themed car horns offer even more permutations to add your own flair in this living museum of a racing arcade.

Yes. Gizmogo security is very important. It is recommended to reset your devices before shipping and make sure your converge data is safe.
Make sure it’s in good shape and still has the original packaging and accessories to get the best price, and be honest about its condition.
The Horizon Retrowave update was simultaneously an expansion and a cultural retrofitting, as the somewhat incongruent aesthetic and musical influences of 1980s North America – influencing everything from dress to food to design – were married to the hip, digital landscape that Forza Horizon 5 players love for its cutting-edge simulation and gameplay dynamics. It was a wave that had arrived. It was an ode to a neon-drenched night-world in which nostalgia and novelty are synergistic.
Ride this lightning and you get to feel the juiciest of 1980s arcade racing chasing the very latest in gaming technology. With every update, Playground Games keeps Horizon and the racing immersive sim genre as dynamic as possible. Having said that, we’re definitely not finished exploring more of this world. Who knows what other coloured phone cabins await? With Horizon heading to its Wave, this adventure in Mexico has only just begun. Strap in, crank up Horizon 80s wave, and let the neon wave drive you.
