Courtesy Porsche Welcome to the brave new world of console gaming! Sony's latest offering to humanity, the PlayStation 5 Pro, has arrived on market and suffice it to say, it has raised the bar in the console gaming industry. As we embark to explain what makes the PS5 Pro such a leap forward in gaming, we also walk you through the device's various components and how they fit together.
Gamers and tech enthusiasts are changing their minds about what consoles ought to be able to do, and Sony’s all-powerful PS5 Pro is raising the bar.
But the main thing that will make the PS5 Pro stand out from the X is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s revolutionary AI-powered upscaler.
But the innovations don’t stop there. The PS5 Pro sports a thinner, lighter profile that addresses some of the pushback that its predecessor received. Its near-silent operation means players can focus on their games without the hum of a console doing its work, demonstrating an attentive responsiveness to user feedback that ensures the future of gaming is one that Sony users can rely on to improve.
While the PS5 Pro’s various enhancements are impressive, its price raises an obvious question: is buying it actually worth it? At $700 (the same price as a new laptop), the PS5 Pro is essentially for an elite group of hardcore gamers who want the ultimate experience, but who could be equally content with the base PS5 because, at less than half the price of the Pro, it still represents an excellent experience.
The biggest omission of all: there’s no disc drive, and Sony sells it as an accessory. This is controversial. I’m not a gamer, but I understand that physical media remains pretty popular among the core fanbase. Having to stump up extra money for something as basic as a disc drive, never mind a vertical stand, doesn’t seem like the most inclusive way to attract your most passionate fanbase.
The one major disadvantage of the PS5 Pro, at least at launch, is its game library. Unlike with PS4, there’s no new PS5 game available yet that will make immediate use of your $400 investment. Instead, existing games are releasing with improved patches, which is a decent stopgap while Sony finalises the roll-out of games that are truly Pro optimised.
In this last part of our discussion of the PS5 Pro we can say that this new generation console brings a big improvement in the gaming technology. Thanks to the PSSR and more friendly design in our new console, we play now much better and more friendly than before. We can say that the PS5 Pro sets a new standard for what players could expect from their consoles.
While the PS5 Pro is bloated and expensive today as it struggles to offer games that justify its price, it is nonetheless a tantalising vision of what gaming’s future holds. And if and when players are offered a feast of PS5 games that capitalise on all that power, the PS5 Pro and other future powerhouses could serve us all the gaming we could ever hope for.
Essentially, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) is Sony’s next-generation console, a successor to the PS4, that promises faster loading, more power, greater emotion, more graphical detail and better gimmickry through next-generation hardware. The PS5 is intended to be your next-generation home entertainment hub that’s more than just a games console with better load times, improved graphics and the latest gimmicks, supporting streaming, media and social interaction as well as games. This is next-generation console gaming.
