As the range of artificial intelligence (AI) features poured into GOOGLE’s Chromebooks is announced, the device is becoming more than a simple browsing tool for homework and word processing. Chromebooks are becoming workhorses for real productivity and creativity, but there’s a catch. The most attractive AI features are reserved for Chromebook Plus, GOOGLE’s flagship model.
When GOOGLE announced a few weeks ago that its Chromebook Plus devices were about to become ‘smarter’ – in large part thanks to AI features incorporated into the desktop, web and OS – the news caused a sensation in tech circles. The improved devices offer a host of suggestions to make work easier, not least the ‘Help me write’ feature where a single right-click on the mouse will generate text from a prompt, or rewrite text in an altered voice, all in the name of encouraging creativity and easy design.
To top it all off, the Chromebook Plus gets the generative AI wallpaper feature in the manner Pixel phones do today. And it gets more gifts than that. The Magic Editor on the Chromebook Plus is the first AI photo editor GOOGLE has given people who use an Android device. It enables dramatic manipulations, such as moving elements like people, and making things bigger and smaller, all without dissolving edges. Now GOOGLE generative AI is not bad.
GOOGLE’s multisensory, AI-powered journey won’t be limited to the Chromebook Plus line either. At the same event when the Chromebook Plus was launched, GOOGLE boasted an entire catalogue of new features for ordinary Chromebooks, including the ability to pair your Chromebook with your phone using a QR code, the ability to create more advanced GIFs, and the ability to add GOOGLE Tasks directly to your Chromebook. GOOGLE’s ultimate goal is to make every computing device into a holistic experience where you connect all your devices together and use them seamlessly.
Moving forward, GOOGLE plans to expand Project Gameface in order to let you control a Chromebook with just your face – or by gesturing. Creating a seamless experience, the Focus function will blend work and pleasure for the ultimate productivity session.
Ensuring ease of use, GOOGLE also features a ‘welcome back’ screen that encourages you to pick up where you left off, device to device. This practice represents GOOGLE’s comprehension of contemporary workflows and its concern to ease the transition from one device to another in a singular digital landscape.
Although most appealing when bundled with the AI-enhanced Chromebook Plus, like all Chromebooks, GOOGLE recognises that innovation is not confined to its aptly named premium line. It is now extending those features to all Chromebooks continuously, as it adheres to the vision that good user experience can and must be made available to all – including those who are not willing to pay a premium for it.
As we look to a future where increased AI integration is key, GOOGLE isn’t just redefining what Chromebooks can do. They’re redefining how we do it: whether you’re clicking your way to a masterpiece, or gesturing your way around your digital world, GOOGLE’s Chromebooks are defining the future of computing as smarter, and more accessible, than ever.
Best known for its seminal contribution to innovations in search engine technology, GOOGLE has offered a host of innovations over the years, extending from AI to consumer hardware, transforming how technology works in our world and contributing to an ‘ever faster’ endeavour to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible. Recently, GOOGLE has shared new features for its Chromebooks, offering new ways to facilitate everyday experiences and demonstrating that it continues to lead the world in digital innovation.
