The iPhone 13 was revealed yesterday September 14th and we have all the details! You can expect the new models to include camera updates, a faster processor, upgraded displays, a new 5G chip, increased battery life, and more.
What models will be included in the 2021 iPhone 13 release?
The 2021 iPhone 13 will be similar in range to the iPhone 12 models. There will be four devices in the 2021 release lineup, including the mini size. The four devices are split between two high-end “Pro” models and two that are a bit less expensive. There is the iPhone mini, an iPhone, a Pro model, and a 6.7” Pro Max model. These new models will track the prices of the iPhone 12 models. Which are priced at $699, $799, $999 and $1,099 respectively. Apple tends to keep their phones around the same cost until big releases are made, so it’s good to know they kept to their routine.
What’s new about the iPhone 13
Design:
The iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini have a 4 core GPU with a slimmer notch and will be available in the colors Blue, Midnight, Starlight, Pink, and Red. The iPhone 13 mini gets 1.5 hours more of battery life. The iPhone 13 Pro and the Max have a 5 core GPU which will give you 50% faster graphics and they will come in the colors Gold, Sierra Blue, Silver, and Graphite.
Camera:
The camera lenses restructured, to a new diagonal placement instead of stacked one on top of the other for the iPhone 13 and mini, whereas the Pro and the Max are arranged as a trio. The iPhone 13 includes camera upgrades that allow photographers to capture the night sky more effectively. Which, if you’ve ever tried to photograph the moon or stars with an iPhone you know would be a big improvement! It was also introduced that there will be a new Cinematic Mode which allows to give a portrait style effect to your videos and can auto focus like never before! For the iPhone 13 Pro and Max have new macrophotography for closeups. The 3rd lens is revamped with 77mm telephoto shooter with 3-time optical zoom.
120Hz Display:
Last year the iPhone 12 was rumored to include a 120Hz Pro Motion Display. It probably would have, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in production. So, the iPhone 13 models have the 120Hz as well as 1,200 nits for display. There has been an improvement to all the phone’s battery lives, with the mini getting that extra attention. Solving the battery life issue from the iPhone 12 for the 13 means using LTPO display technology, which allows for more power efficiency while reaching speedy refresh rate times.
A15 Processor:
The 2021 line all have the A15 Bionic processor which is Apple’s fastest chip. It has new video encoders/decoders, double system cache, image signal processor, and display engine. A more dramatic update is suspected in the coming year, possibly with the iPhone 14 (or whatever Apple names the next model). There are rumors of a 4-nanometer process node chip, down from the current 5nm.
5G:
Only the U.S models of the iPhone 13 and Pro will support 5G data from mmWave bands and sub-6GHz bands are in all 4 iPhone 13 models outside of the U.S. iPhone 13 models are able to support 5G bands overall.
Storage:
The iPhone 13 will include 128GB to 512GB of storage. However, a new storage option for the iPhone 13 Pro and the Max with 1TB for the first time ever which would the most storage an iPhone has offered. If you’re always running out of storage space for photos, videos, apps, and music, this might be an upgrade worth waiting for!
